Ruth Guise started Shibumi in 2004 out of a love for textiles and colour. This was the main inspiration behind the business but it has evolved with time and now her drive is also to spread colour and joy around the world whilst giving a percentage of profits to Amma’s global charity, Embracing the World. Ruth also strives to make connections with talented artisans and women’s cooperatives so their amazing work can be shared through her designs at Shibumi.

Coming from a family of designers and tailors, with her grandmother being an incredible couture dressmaker and her cousin being a well-known designer, Ruth has creativity in the blood. After years of playing around with fabrics and life taking its course as it does, she found herself in 2004 developing an idea, and Shibumi was born.

She loves textiles and wanted to inspire people to wear beautiful coats and jackets casually, not only kept hidden away in cupboards for ‘special’ occasions. She also wanted to include all shapes and sizes in her creations, so petite and plus sizes are very important to her. Shibumi sizes range for women from 6-26 and for men from 34-54. A bespoke service is also available.
